Practice
Edward Renvoize has developed an impressive Criminal Law practice and has built upon his interest in Mental Health Law, now appearing regularly in the Court of Protection. He developed an interest in the area after gaining a reputation for dealing with clients in Criminal matters who had mental health issues and where fitness to plead was in question. He has experience of dealing with matters involving the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and also applications under the Mental Health Act 2007. A significant part of this practice is acting on behalf of local authorities both to prosecute matters on their behalf and conducting PII disclosure interviews.

His Criminal caseload covers defence and prosecution, including a variety of cases including drugs matters, sexual offences and offences of violence and dishonesty. Latterly Edward has been in demand for large scale drug dealing cases and complex fraud matters, both areas he is keen to develop.

What sets Edward apart from most is his international practice. From 2007 to 2009 he practiced as a criminal defence attorney at a renowned law firm in the Cayman Islands. Here he experienced both sides of the profession; combining what in England & Wales would be the duties of a solicitor and barrister, even representing clients at police station interviews. Whilst in Cayman he undertook a broad range of cases including murder, attempted murder, rape, serious sexual abuse, fraud, firearms offences and large-scale drug importations. He developed a particular interest in the handling of expert evidence, notably forensic accountancy, DNA analysis and firearms residue analysis.

He regularly appeared in the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal, both in appeals against sentence and conviction where he gained experience that has since stood him in great stead for returning to his practice in the UK. Due to his experience Edward is in demand as a knowledgeable and extremely able barrister who can relate to the issues that lay clients and solicitors face, dealing with them in a professional yet friendly manner.

Edward is a Grade 3 CPS Prosecutor.
