Practice
Jonathan Seely is an established Criminal Law specialist who has been practising predominantly on the South Eastern circuit since his call in 1987. He joined One Paper in 1997 from a set based on circuit and has extensive experience in all areas of criminal practice, both prosecution and defence.
Whilst his practice encompasses all areas of criminal law, he has a special interest in court martial work and regulatory matters; these are areas where his non-legal skills are utilized, for example his language skills when acting upon court martial matters in Germany. His local authority/regulatory practice also provides him with a different challenge from the serious crime that makes up the remainder of his practice – his recent experience includes licensing work (first instance and appellate), and social security fraud, which he greatly enjoys.
The bulk of his caseload is serious crime and he has experience of defending and prosecuting armed robbery conspiracies, very serious sex cases, multi-handed drugs conspiracies and murders.
