Quinton practices in prosecution and defence work in London and across the
South Eastern and Western Circuits.
He specialises in all areas of crime and has experience
of a wide range of work in the Crown Court. He conducted the defence in the
trial of R v Barrett (possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine)
and possession of a bladed article) at the Central Criminal Court and acted
for the defence, as junior to Gregory Perrins, in the case of R
v Cox (co-ordinator
of a paedophile website on which recordings of “live” abuse were
shared) at Ipswich Crown Court. He has recently conducted his first Court of
Appeal matter in R v Souissi in which he successfully appealed against sentence.
Having accumulated substantial experience, Quinton is regularly
instructed in serious matters in the Magistrates’ Court and Youth Court,
including robberies, burglaries, public order, sexual and violent offences.
His Youth Court work has included a multi-handed, certificated, section 18
GBH matter, involving a serious burn inflicted upon a 14-year-old victim. He
also has experience of dealing with contested ASBO proceedings and breach matters.
Having been instructed on behalf of the defence and having
completed a secondment with the Asset Forfeiture Division of Revenue and Customs
Prosecutions Office (RCPO), Quinton also has expertise in the area of confiscation.
He has experience of Criminal Justice Act 1988, Drug Trafficking Act 1994 (“DTA”)
and Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (“POCA”) confiscation work. This
experience includes a section 16 DTA application at the High Court (certificate
of increase in the realisable amount) and a section 23 POCA application in
the Crown Court (application to reduce the order) and various enforcement hearings.
He is currently instructed in a contested £1 million POCA confiscation
case.
Whilst on secondment to Revenue and Customs Prosecutions
Office Quinton had conduct of the enforcement of the largest ever confiscation
order made against a defendant (£28 million) on behalf of Revenue and Customs Prosecutions
Office. He has also spent time with Norfolk CPS on secondment, during which
time he prosecuted trials in the Magistrates’ Court. The combination
of his prosecution and defence experience makes him an effective, well-balanced
and versatile advocate at every level.
