About
us:
where we work
Members of the South Eastern Circuit work mainly
throughout London and the South East, with members regularly practising
in Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Essex to the south and Suffolk, Norfolk,
Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and
into Lincolnshire in the north. Counsel have also appeared in Crown
Courts as disparate as Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle.
Western Circuit members' work is largely based
on the eastern half of the Circuit, in Hamphire, Dorset, Wiltshire
and the Isle of Wight, although they also appear in all courts
across the Circuit, including Bristol, and the Crown Court centres
in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Chambers has a long history as
one of the major sets practising on the Western Circuit. Many members
of the Western Circuit also appear regularly in London court centres,
instructed by solicitors both from the Circuit and in London. Western
Circuit practitioners have also appeared recently in Crown Courts
in Manchester, Wolverhampton and Cardiff.
One Paper Buildings is able to offer a
wide range of counsel, many of whom live on circuit. From silks
down to working pupils, Chambers has a vast range of experience
of prosecuting and defending in cases at every level.
In addition to appearing in Youth, Magistrates'
and Crown Courts, the Court of Appeal and the House of Lords, members
also conduct cases of Judicial Review in the High Court and appear
in Courts-Martial on the South Eastern and Western circuits and
abroad.
South Eastern circuiteers also appear regularly
on the Western Circuit in support of this part of Chambers' practice,
and vice versa . This ensures that pupils and the more
junior members of Chambers have an extensive geographical area
across which they can develop their skills, and that the more senior
members of Chambers are available to assist in cases of appropriate
significance.
Practitioners and the Clerking team are acutely
aware of the importance of pre-trial conferences, and make every
effort to accommodate the needs of professional and lay clients:
conferences can be held in Chambers, Solicitors' offices or elsewhere
as necessary. Conferences can often be held at very short notice,
to the obvious advantage of all concerned.
We make extensive use of our own boxes within
the Document Exchange around the Circuits so that briefs can be delivered
to Counsel speedily. Courier services are also contracted for emergency
deliveries.
